Hazrate Hind bint Utbah (R.A)

Hazrate Hind bint Utbah (R.A) was of good and rational character. Her son, Hazrat Amir Muaawiya ibn Abu Sufyan (R.A) said about her, "She was greatly dangerous in the pre-Islamic period but was of good character in Islam".

She got married to Al-Fakiha ibn al-Mughira by whom she gave birth to Abban. After separating from al-Fakiha she got married to Hazrat Abu Sufyan (R.A).

In the battle of Badr, she was severely affected by the death of her father, Utbah, her brother, al-Walid and her uncle, Shayba. She grieved for them and wished for taking vengeance.

In the battle of Uhud, she enticed her slave, Wahshi to assassinate Hazrat Hamzah (R.A) (who killed most of her family in the battle of Badr). After the Martyrdom of Hazrat Hamzah (R.A) she disfigured His (R.A) blessed body and removed His liver chewed it and spat it out.

It was said that when Hazrat Abu Sufyan (R.A) embraced Islam and went back to Makkah crying, and said "O people of Quraish, Muhammad launched towards you troops that you could not oppose. Whoever entered Abu Sufyan's house is at peace, and whoever stayed home or entered the Sacred Mosque is at peace too." Hind did not like her husband's behaviour and insulted him.

The following day (second day of the conquest) she asked her husband to lead her to the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). He (R.A) replied, "Oh, You didn’t like that yesterday!" She said, "I have never seen good worshipping of Allah like what the Muslims did last night. They spent all the night praying, kneeling and prostrating".

Hazrat Abu Sufyan (R.A) said, "You should go to Him (S.A.W) with one of your kin". Therefore, she went with Hazrat Uthman ibn Affan (R.A).

She stood veiled before the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) with some other women. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, praise be to Allah Who made the belief He chose manifest. I declare that I believe in Allah and His Messenger. Then, she disclosed her face and said, "I am Hind bint Utbah." The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said, "Welcome" and began to take the pledge of allegiance and faith from them.

Hazrate Hind (R.A) then joined the Muslim community and took part in the Islamic achievements and accompanied her husband in the battle of Yarmuk. She (R.A) passed away fourteen years after Hijrah.
