Ramadan 2011 (Seeking The Truth)

To Seek the Waseela of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W)

Some people believe that it is not permissible to seek a Waseela (mediation) when making Dua to Allah (S.W.T). They say that you should make Dua directly to Allah (S.W.T).

The Aqeeda of the Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamaat is that to seek the mediation of Rasoolullah (S.A.W) is permissible, according to the Shari’ah.

The following verse proves that one can seek Waseela by approaching the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). Allah (S.W.T) states in the Holy Quran: "And We (Allah) have not sent any Rasool (Messenger of Allah) but that he should be obeyed by the Command of Allah. And when they commit cruelties to their own selves then (O beloved Muhammad (S.A.W)) they come to you and pray for forgiveness of Allah. But if the Rasool (Messenger of Allah) recommends it only they will find Allah Pardoning, Merciful." (Para 5, Surah 4 (Al Nisa), Ayat 64)

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (R.A) states that when the Jews wished to gain victory over their enemies they would make this Dua: "O Allah! We ask to you through the mediation of the unlettered Prophet that You may grant us victory over those Polytheists." (Tafseer Durre Manthur)

Hadrat Uthman bin Hanif (R.A) says that a blind man came to the court of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Pray for me that I may regain my sight." The Prophet (S.A.W) said, "Go and perform ablution and read two Raka'ats of Nafil Salaah and read this Dua: 'O Allah! Verily I ask of You and towards You I use the mediation of Nabi-e-Rahmat, Muhammad Mustapha (S.A.W). O Muhammad! Verily I turn through your Waseela to Your Creator for my needs so that my needs may be fulfilled. O Allah, accept the intercession of Muhammad (S.A.W) for me". (Ibn Maja; Shifa Shareef)

When Hazrat Adam (A.S) ate from the forbidden tree, he made Dua to Allah (S.W.T) through the mediation of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) in this way: "O Allah! Forgive me with the Waseela of Muhammad Mustapha (S.A.W)." (Tibraani; Muwahibul Ladaniyah)

The Ambiya (A.S) are mediators for their Ummah and their Waseela is Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). Hence, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) is the Waseela of all mediations, even the Waseela for Hazrat Adam (A.S). (Tafseer Saadi)

Hazrat Aisha Siddiqa (R.A) says that the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said, "O Allah! grant Islam respect through Umar ibn Khatab." (Ibn Majah)

From the above Quranic verse and AHadith, it is clearly evident that seeking Waseela of our beloved Prophet (S.A.W) is not only permissible but it is the means of our Duas being accepted.
