Ask The Imam Question and Answer

1247 Are we allowed to watch the weather? I heard from an Imam that we shouldn't watch the weather because of predictions etc…
I am not sure what understanding the Imam is using to state this.

Weather forecasts are not a prediction of astronomy but a calculation based on scientific evidence, therefore is allowed. This is the same as the calculating of sunrise and sunset times for Salah times etc).

When a person refers to the weather calculations, he/she doesn’t hold the understanding that the weather will not change from the calculations made nor that Maazallah Allah (S.W.T) will not or cannot change it. If the observer holds that, total control is in the hand of Allah (S.W.T), then in my opinion there is nothing wrong with watching the weather. Allah (S.W.T) knows best.
