427 What are the requirements of leading the Salaah?
The main requirements of Imamat in Salaah (leading congregational prayer) are;

1) Firstly the Imam must be Muslim and Male

2) He should have a Shari beard (Fist long from chin). This is according to Fiqha Hanafi, unless the beard does not naturally grow that long. Other Imams of Fiqh may have a different view with regards to the length of the beard

3) Then the most worthy is he who has a thorough knowledge of the Masail (Issues) of Salaah (prayer) as long as he does not have any outward characteristics of Fisq (immorality), he knows the specified number of verses for recitation, and recites the Quran correctly.

4) After him, the person who recites the Quran according to the correct rules.

5) Thereafter, the person who is the most pious.

6) Thereafter, the person who is the most senior in age.
