Ask The Imam Question and Answer

571 What is Hajj?
Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is a Fard (compulsory) for every Muslim, male as well as female, who is major, sane and able to undertake the journey to Makkah and bear its expense, once in a life time.

Our Beloved Prophet (S.A.W) has said, “Islam is built upon Five Pillars: Testifying that there is no true god except Allah and that Muhammad (S.A.W) is the Messenger of Allah (S.W.T), performing Salah, paying the Zakah, Fasting in the month of Ramadan and taking the Pilgrimage to the Sacred House (Hajj)” (Reported by Al-Bukhari)

The basic rites of Hajj are i.e. Ehraam (wearing of Ehraam, Niyyat and Talbiah), presence in Arafat and Tawaful Ziyarat. These are Fard, while others rites are either Wajib (obligatory) or Sunnah.

There are many forms of literature available in the market today which cover this subject in great detail.
