Ask The Imam Question and Answer

587 When someone passes away, are you allowed to put henna (mehndi) on the deceased hands and feet, put 'surmah', removal of the facial hair (shaving the stubble or plucking the eyebrows), clipping the nail, etc?

Can we smarten the body? Is this accepted in Islam?

I ask these questions because they are fairly common in certain areas in Pakistan, and slowly growing in UK.
It is stated in Sunni Bahishthi Zaiwar, P293 that to comb, cut or pluck the hairs of the decease, to cut the nails etc is Makrooh Tehremi and results in a Sin being committed.

If someone did pluck / cut the hair or cut the nails of the deceased then one should place these items in the Kafan. One should not put Henna or Surmah on either.
