904 | Who Was 'Jalâl ad-Dîn Rûmî'? And Was He Part Of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat?
Hazrat Mawlana Jalaluddin Mohammad Rumi (R.A) was a 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, theologian and Sufi mystic following Ahle Sunnah wal Jammah Aqaid. He was one of the greatest Saints in Islamic history and well known in the West for his Sufi poetry, especially his treasury of couplets entitled Masnavi Sharif. (The Masnavi Shareef was a Sufi masterpiece which Hazrat Saab started during the final years of his life.) Mawlana Rumi (R.A) was born on the 6th of Rabiul Awwal in Balkh, present-day Afghanistan. His father, Hazrat Bahauddin Walad (R.A), was a great Muslim Scholar and also a Sufi Saint who descends from the lineage of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (R.A), the First Caliph of Islam. A brief biography can be found on our website, in the literature section under the Sufism section. (Answered by: Hafiz Mohammed Akhtar)
