Ask The Imam Question and Answer

905 My husband does not listen to me when I ask him to pray Salah or Fast! He is not Islamic. He believes GOD loves us 7o times more than our mother how can he punish us severely for not praying. How shall I convince him? and can I pray on his place would he get the reward if I pray for myself than one Namaz for him?
In order to answer your question properly, I will break it down into three sub questions:

1. My husband does not listen to me when I ask him to pray Salah or Fast! He is not Islamic. He believes GOD loves us 7o times more than our mother how can he punish us severely for not praying. How shall I convince him?

Only disbelievers and disobedient people will go to hellfire. It is also very evident that despite the great love of the mother she would also hold children accountable for their action.

However Allah (S.W.T)’s compassion is such that He has given us all this life to please him yet a single act could be sufficient to gain Jannah (Paradise). Our creation is to do Allah Azawajal’s Ibadaah (Worship), humans easily divert from that command and yet still pause question to why would one go to hellfire, our actions and level of obedience is what will determine hell or heaven for us.

May Allah Azawajal help us to achieve and stay on Siratul Mustaqeem (The straight path). Aameen.

2. Can I pray in his place? Would he get the reward if I pray for myself than one Namaz for him?

The simple answer is No. You are not allowed to read Fard Salah or perform Fard Fast for your husband, in the hope to relieve him from this obligation. These acts are obligatory on him as an individual and he alone will be accountable for them.

3. How shall I convince him?

There are many examples that can be found on our website highlighting the importance of Salah and Fasting. Such examples can be found under the Ramadan/Fasting and Namaz Sections on the “Ask the Imam” page.

It would also be beneficial if he refers to the Sin / Repentance / Forgiveness Section.

May Allah (S.W.T) give us all the ability to follow the right path and repent for our Sins. (Ameen).
