Ask The Imam Question and Answer

930 I've heard that interest money can be given to charities for sanitations; such as the use of making toilets. Is this correct? If yes, what else apart from toilets, can the money go towards?
Let’s firstly establish that interest is Haraam (forbidden) in Islam and on those basis should be avoided. We should not enter situation especially with current acceptable Islamic sources of finance to engage in interest bearing activities. We do not need to think about where to use interest money but to avoid interest bearing transactions.

If such money comes into Muslim hands, then one may use it for purpose of act’s where Sawab is not intended but a general use for humanity, i.e. sanitation, shelter, roads etc. And Allah Azawajal Knows best.
