What is the opinion of Scholars upon a reciter of Naat (either in Mosque or on TV) who does not have his beard according to Sunnah (or even clean shaved)? Is it not true that he is contradicting himself when on one hand he shows affection for the Beloved Prophet (S.A.W) through his words but his actions do not speak of his Love for the Prophet (S.A.W)? Keeping full length beard is Wajib and person who trims or shaves his beard is doing a Haram act. Should people who do not have full length beard even be allowed to recite Naat Shareef in the mosques? |

Undoubtedly, you are right to suggest that a person reciting a Naat without a beard is somewhat contradicting himself; he is verbally expressing love for the Beloved Prophet (S.A.W), but he is not proving it by keeping a beard. At the same time, it is difficult to prevent anyone from praising the Prophet. Even if a non-Muslim or staunch enemy was to praise the Prophet, we would not raise objections. In fact in the time of the Prophet, Hirqals the Roman king asked questions about the Prophet to Abu Sufyan ibn Harb. He gave a beautiful description of the Prophet (S.A.W) to the King. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Chapter; the beginning of revelation, Hadith number 6). Therefore, we should strike a balance between allowing all to be given the opportunity to praise the Prophet (S.A.W), and between encouraging people to adopt the physical and moral qualities of the Beloved Prophet (S.A.W).
