I am writing in regards to some clarity. A friend of mine was in a lesbian relationship for 2 years, while she was in it she was in guilt, and was scared at the same time. The girl she was with is Ismaili and follows Aga khan so she thinks its fine to be gay. The problem is that my friend is extremely hurt because this girl has treated her very badly, not only she broke up with her, she's treated her like she's no body and makes her feel like she's lost out or is guilty. The girl pressured her a lot to come out and tell her family. My friend knows that Allah has guided her in the right path but she wants to find peace and wants this pain to go away. I know being lesbian is Haraam, can you suggest anything for her to pray to get this pain away? Also my friend keeps on telling me that she wants that girl to suffer because she has given her allot of pain while being with her and also after that. What is the punishment of being lesbian? Hoping to hear from you soon. |

Having a Gay relationship in Islam is totally forbidden (Haraam), and is classed as a Grave Sin. Although you have mentioned that your friend has stopped engaging in this vile act, it is very important to remember that as she has violated Allah (S.W.T) command and participated in this Sin, she has to sincerely repent to her Creator. Allah (S.W.T) says in the Holy Quran that I will forgive all Sins except Shirk (Polytheism – associating partners with Allah S.W.T). Therefore if one repents sincerely (Taubah Tun Nasuh) and keeps away from this path of Sin. Inshallah she will find Allah’s (S.W.T) mercy, and forgiveness. As for your friend wanting revenge for the pain she had received from the other partner whilst in this relationship, what we would suggest is that she concentrates all her efforts into trying to follow the true teachings of Islam and spend her time in pleasing Allah (S.W.T). Turn her own life around and inshallah leave the other woman’s concerns/ actions to Allah (S.W.T). May Allah (S.W.T) guide us all to the right path.
