1268 I am about to marry my Muslim fiance in a ceremony with an Imam in Turkey. I would like to know the roles of a husband and wife....would my husband be right in not allowing me to do certain things or go certain places? Do I have the same rights on him? I have started to read the Quran and am trying to learn more. I was raised as a Christian and obviously know about my religion I need more understanding of his. AND. I just wanted to clarify what a woman's role is in a marriage. Am I right in saying that her priorities should be being a good wife and mother? But, if she has no children, what constitutes being a good wife? Traditionally, people would assume this means cooking and cleaning etc for the husband. But did the Prophet (S.A.W) not do this for himself? Also, if she is working, is it acceptable for her husband to help her?

1265 Isn’t it true that there should be no laughing, no worldly talks, no shouting in the mosque? So then why is it that there are 'elders' in mosque who treat the mosque like its their home and do everything they shouldn’t be doing, what kind of example is this to young children who get shouted at for something the 'elders' are doing themselves. I’ve heard loads of gossip, backchat and disrespect from these 'elders' and have had enough. It’s disgraceful, they should know better, treating everyone like dirt. I have done nothing but respect these people and when they keep being disrespectful, time and time again there’s only a certain amount i can take. I’ve been incredibly patient and its getting beyond a joke, I go to this particular Masjid, do my thing, give salaam to the people there and leave. Does it say anywhere that I have to stay and talk to people because they want to talk about something irrelevant, no? I know I have to carry on being patient, could you tell me the reward for patience?

1258 I have been told to sit and listen to the Khutbah attentively. I have never been told to perform the following acts: During Khutbah people sitting in the Attihiyyaat position folding their hands like in Salaat for the first Khutbah and then placing them on the thighs in the second Khutbah. I have been told off a couple of times of not following this procedure. I have been to many Masjids around the world, all Sunni school of thought and Ahle-Sunna. I have never come across this practice during Khutbah. Can you please explain, furthermore, I have been told in the Masjid (by elders) that it is a requirement to perform such an act. If this is the case, please clarify.
