Ahle Bait

The Holy Prophet (S.A.W), Hadrat Ali (R.A), Hadrat Fatima (R.A), Hadrat Imaam Hassan (R.A), Hadrat Imaam Hussain (R.A), Holy Prophet's (S.A.W) Blessed Wives (revered mothers of believers) (R.A), Holy Prophet's (S.A.W) Children and near relatives (including future generations) are known as the Ahle Bait (may Allah be pleased with them all).

Many Quranic verses and Hadith indicate the excellences of the Ahle Bait. These being:

  • Allah (S.W.T) has cleansed them of impurity and purified them well.
  • Hell-fire is Haraam (forbidden) for them.
  • Sadaqa (Alms / Zakat) is unlawful for them.
  • They will be the first group of believers for whom the Prophet (S.A.W) will intercede on the Day of Judgement.
  • To love them is one of the obligatory duties of Islam.

Aal is such a wide concept that the Ahle Bait is also considered under this term. Aal refers to the children of Sayyida Fatima (R.A). This is because it was through her that the Prophets (S.A.W) linage continues. The other Daughters of the Prophet (S.A.W) had no children.

The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) has said

“The barakah of the recognition of the right of the Aal of Muhammed leads to salvation from the fire. Love for the Aal of Muhammed will help cross the Bridge of Siraat safely. The help and support of the Aal of Muhammed is a source of safety from the punishment of Allah”.
