Ramadan 2006 (Sunnah : The Perfect Example)

Manners of Sleeping (Part 3)

Dua before going to sleep:

Allahumma Bi Ismika Amoothu Wa Akhya (Bukhari)

Meaning:
I sleep (die) and rise in the name of Allah (S.W.T)

Sleep is the sister of death, sleeping is equivalent to death and awaking from sleep is like rising from the dead. So remember death before going to sleep. This will help us to spend a good life and avoid evil.

Zikr before going to sleep:

Before retiring to bed, it is Sunnah to open both hands as in Dua, and recite the last three ‘Qul’ (i.e.; Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq, and Surah Naas) of the Holy Quran, and blow on your hands.

Then pass them all over the body as far as they can reach.
Start from the head, to the face and then to the front portion of the body. This must be done three times. (Bukhari)

When lying down on the bed, recite Ayat-ul-Kursi (Bukhari)

Whoever does this while lying down on the bed, Allah (S.W.T) will grant protection to his, as well as his neighbours homes in the same vicinity. Moreover, the Shaytaan will not dare to approach him till the morning.

After Ayat-ul-Kursi, recite Subhanallah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allah-o- Akbar 34 times. Then, recite Surah Kafiroon and sleep.

Subhanallah means How perfect Allah (S.W.T) is.
Alhamdulillah means All praise is for Allah (S.W.T).
Allah-o- Akbar means Allah (S.W.T) is Great.

According to the Hadith, anyone doing this, Almighty Allah appoints an Angel to guard him while he sleeps.
