Manners of Sleeping (Part 1)
Wajaalna Naumakum Subatan Wajaalnallaila Lebasan. (Surah: Naba, Ayaat: 9-10)
Meaning:
“And We (Allah) have appointed sleep for your rest, and We (Allah) have appointed the night as a covering.
Therefore night is meant for sleeping.
Our beloved Prophet (S.A.W) taught us the correct manners of sleeping.
1. Clean bedding three times before sleeping:
Holy Prophet (S.A.W) directed us to clean bedding at least three times before sleeping. In spite of bed being clean before, there still may be a possibility of dirt or insects getting into the bed.
2. Do Not sleep straight after Asr Namaz
Hazrat Abu Yah’li (R.A) narrated on the authority of Hazrat Sayyidah Aisha (R.A) that Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said: “He who sleeps after the Asr prayer, should curse himself for any damage to his sanity.”
3. Sleeping after Isha Namaz:
Sleeping early in the night will help you to have good sleep, otherwise you struggle for sleep. Late nights will affect the health and most of all it will be difficult to wake up early in the morning for Fajr prayer.
4. Right way of lying on bed:
Lye with head towards North, and face towards ‘Qibla’. If this is not possible, then lye on the right side of your body.
- Place the right hand under right cheek.
- Hold the right foot heel with the toe and fingers of the left foot.
- Place the left hand on the waist.
