Ramadan 2006 (Sunnah : The Perfect Example)

Sunnah of Travel (Part 2)

Dua for leaving home:

When leaving home at the beginning of a journey, one should recite the following Dua;

‘Bismillahi Tawak-Kaltu A’lallahi Wala Howla Wala Quwwata Illabillah’

Meaning:

“In the name of Allah, I trust Allah; there is no power and might except from Allah”.

Dua for Travelling:

When you aboard a vehicle, before travelling, the following Dua should be recited;

‘SubHaanal-Ladhi Sakharalana Hadha Wamakunnaa Lahu Mukrineen Wa-inna Illa Rabbina Lamun Qaliboon’

Meaning:

“Purity belongs to Almighty Allah, who has subjected this transportation for us and we were not capable of controlling it and, surely, to our sustainer we are to return”.

Avoid travelling alone & at night:

Hazrat AbdAllah Ibn Umar (R.A) narrates that Rasoolullah (S.A.W) said, “If a person knew what I know about travelling alone, then nobody would travel alone at night”.  (Bukhari)

Women cannot travel on their own:

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (R.A) heard the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) saying,“It is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman (Ghair Mehram). A woman should not travel except with a Mehram (i.e. her husband, father, brother, son etc.)”.
Then a person got up and said, “O, Messenger of Allah (S.A.W), I have enlisted in army for such and such battle, and my wife is proceeding for Hajj”. Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said, “Go, and perform the Hajj with your wife”.
