Dates of Hazrat Jabir (R.A)
The father of Hazrat Jabir (R.A) was made Shaheed in the battle of Uhad, leaving him indebted to some Jews. Hazrat Jabir (R.A) came to the court of Rasoolullah (S.A.W) and said “Ya Rasoolullah (S.A.W)! My father has passed away and has left us in debt.
I have nothing except dates to repay these loans, and even if I give it to the creditors for years, it won’t be sufficient. Please come with me to my orchard so that, when the Jews see you, they shall be lenient with me when asking for their dues.”
As a result Rasoolullah (S.A.W) proceeded to his orchard, walked around the heap of dates whilst making Dua. The blessings and power of the Prophet of Allah’s (S.W.T) Dua was such that all the loans of the creditors were repaid by this heap of dates, and when it was examined afterwards. The amount was found to be the same as before. (Bukhari Shareef, Vol. 1, Page 505)
The Bag of Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R.A)
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R.A) narrates, “I once presented myself before Rasoolullah (S.A.W) when He granted me some dates, for which I requested him to make Dua for Barkat on.
Thus, He gathered the dates and made Dua on them, saying afterwards, “Keep these dates in your bag. When you want to eat from it just put your hand inside and take them out, but don’t empty the bag when cleaning it.”
For approximately 25 years, Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA) ate from the bag and gave others as well, yet the dates did not end.
The bag was kept on the waist of the Sahaabi (R.A), until ultimately falling off to become lost on the day of Hazrat Usman (R.A) becoming Shaheed. (Mishkaat Sharif, Vol. 2, Page 543 & Tirmidhi Shareef, Vol. 2, Page 224).
He was deeply grieved by the loss of the bag and thus, on the day of Hazrat Uthman (R.A) becoming Shaheed, read this couplet in a very sorrowful tone,
“People have one sorrow while I have two. The first is that of the bag, whilst the other is of Sheikh Uthman (RA). (Mirqaat Sharah Mishkaat).
